Number of Young Adults increases in the Harrisburg Metro Area

Since 2000 the number of people between the ages of 18 and 34 in the Harrisburg area grew by 7.2%.  This rate of growth is higher than the state average growth rate for this age group which was 4.76%.  Within the region the areas that saw the fastest growth were areas in the immediate vicinity of Harrisburg as well as the greater Shippensburg area.  From 2000 to 2010 the number of adults 18 to 34 grew by 9.06% in the City of Harrisburg while the overall city grew by 0.87%.  In 2010 27% of all city residents were in this age group which is up from 25% in 2000.  Overall our region is seeing a higher growth rate in the young adult segment of our population compared to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
