Coworking Space Arrives in Harrisburg

Coworking space is a relatively new concept that describes people from different organizations that come together to work in the same space.  The benefit of the concept is that independent workers, who normally would work in a home office or some other location often by themselves, can come together in a collaborative environment.  The shared space can help the professionals develop networks as well as having pleasant surroundings that has shared equipment and services.  Locally in the Harrisburg area there have been a number of coworking spaces that have developed over the past few years.  Each has a unique set of benefits and amenities for businesses but all of them have the goal of bringing like-minded professionals together to create a unique workplace consisting of individuals from multiple employers.

Our regional coworking spaces are Make Space, the Techcelerator at the Murata Business Center, and the newest coworking space St@rtup Harrisburg.  Make Space is a space that is set-up for artists and is located in Midtown Harrisburg.  The Techcelerator is a joint program between the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC and Ben Franklin Technology Partners located at the Murata Business Center in Carlisle. The Techcelerator is a shared space business incubator environment where start-up businesses are chosen to start or improve their business concept.  The newest coworking space is St@rtup Harrisburg located in Midtown Harrisburg across from the Harrisburg Area Community College Midtown Campus.   This concept focuses on shared working space and is aimed at people currently working at home or in coffee shops.  The benefits include shared internet, and copiers, as well as free coffee and a quiet place to work alongside other like-minded professionals.  Overall the support programs and spaces for entrepreneurs are growing in the Harrisburg region.   Creative and useful office spaces such as these can help to develop the next generation of businesses within our region.
