Application Process Opens for the City of Harrisburg Environmental Projects Grant

HARRISBURG,PA – The Harrisburg Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) is seeking applications for funding environmental projects within the City of Harrisburg. Applications must be submitted by May 31, 2014. Applications should be submitted to: Environmental Advisory Council, c/o City Clerk, Martin Luther King Jr Government Center, 2 N Second Street, Harrisburg PA 17101.   Download a copy of the grant application here.

Upon review of all submitted applications, the EAC will recommend to the Administration and City Council that one or more applications be approved for funding. The funding pool for this grant cycle is $100,000. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of their Environmental Benefit, Community Benefit, and Sustainability.

The funding source will be the Host Municipality Benefit Fee. This fund was established by Act 101. The City receives $1 per ton for each ton of municipal waste processed by the incinerator. The Receiver’s Strong Plan requires the City to spend these funds on administrative expenses and environmental projects.

At its February meeting, the EAC passed a resolution suggesting the City set aside up to $100,000 from the Host Fee for local environmental grants. Although the EAC will make recommendations on the applications, the ultimate decisions are made by the Administration and City Council.
