South Central PA Rapid Employer Response Team

The South Central PREP region which includes the Harrisburg Metropolitan Area has established a Rapid Employer Response Team to work with companies that are locating to the region, expanding, or experiencing difficulties in locating a suitable workforce. These teams are similar to but opposite to the current Rapid Response teams to address companies in closure.

This initiative was developed with the support of Jobs1st funding, the South Central region proposes to establish a Rapid Employer Response Team to proactively address industries in expansion. This could be new industries coming to the region or industries in significant expansion.  Additionally, the team can also  be used to help employers within our region that are identified by the PREP partners as high risk for relocation due to a lack of workforce.   The team is comprised of PREP partners, PA CareerLink® staff, WIB staff, and others would come together to address the needs of these companies to either help them start and flourish in the region, or retain the company within the region.

Some examples of issues that employers are facing, are access to qualified and skilled workers, general access to labor, and training needs.  These are all issues that we work through with each company individually as well as with the Workforce Investment Board staff.  The solutions to each company’s challenges are unique and as a group the local Economic Development groups and the Workforce Development specialists will work to identify the issues as well as potential solutions.  So far we have found many companies with the same challenges and in some cases have been able to coordinate resources to address larger issues at the regional level rather than working one company at a time.  This helps to coordinate the response and makes for a better solution to the issues long term.

If you would like to discuss workforce challenges that apply to your business, please contact Shaun Donovan at the Chamber & CREDC offices at (717) 213-5033.
